EVERY YEAR I’M ON THE LOOK OUT FOR THE LATEST IN TECHNIQUES AND STYLES WHICH CAN GIVE MY MOTORBIKE AN APPEAL THAT’S SECOND TO NONE.
AFTER MANY YEARS WITH KTM, THIS SEASON I GOT BACK ON THE SADDLE OF A KAWASAKI. IT’S A BIKE THAT I HAD ALREADY USED IN 2005 AND 2006, WHICH AT THE TIME WAS ALREADY CONSIDERED INNOVATIVE AND UNIQUE.
This year the search focused on a racing line, rather than on aesthetics designed to attract all of the attention. The bike had to have an overall look that was clean and sober, together with a strong attention to detail and customisation.
Initially the design and planning took up from where I left off with the old 2006 KX; then I started to focus on producing something new, fresh and never seen before. That’s why I decided to follow the factory line with original colours of green and black, with a new interpretation. To achieve all of this and to avoid being too standard, I combined the use of purple. Purple is a colour frequently used by Kawasaki in the past and familiar to me, it’s noticeable and combines well with the other two colours on my Kawasaki.
Once the graphics were chosen I wanted to place importance on colours: the bike had to stand out. Thanks to the special paint with its unique adhesion qualities, the plastic and various parts were all coloured fluoro green. However green on its own wasn’t enough, and the final result would have been too overdone. At this point it was decided to use the water transfer printing technique on all of the fluoro components of the bike, inserting my personalised pattern composed of logos and graphics which represent my past and present (Da Boot, CMYK, Superpark, Ride to Party, Full metal Da Boot, etc.). The idea was to render the bike special while at the same time lightening the fluoro component which otherwise could have been too strong.
As far as the plastic is concerned, I wanted to highlight the hidden parts by inserting a pattern only in the internal areas where graphics are not usually displayed.
All of the parts in aluminium were anodised according to their position on the bike in green, black and purple so that they could be laser engraved with my personalised pattern. The laser gives it a touch of sobriety and precision on the components which is unique and creates an effect of perfection: special yet simple and linear at the same time.
Nothing was left to chance so a number of standard parts were substituted with various components. The screws, nuts and bolts were replaced with parts made of aluminium and titanium, while various technical parts such as the sump (oil pan) and the footboards were replaced with special parts.
