Fare il giudice ad una competizione internazionale come gli Xgames non è cosa da poco. Si viene chiamati quando nella propria carriera si è riusciti a guadagnare la stima e il rispetto dei rider e del pubblico. Ecco perché Alvaro risponde sempre con grande competenza a questa chiamata. Il 29 agosto e il 29 settembre scorsi ha vestito i panni di giudice alla gara di Best Trick e Best Whip della disciplina del Freestyle Motocross a Oslo.
“Mi sono trovato a giudicare piloti con cui ho condiviso lo stress e le gare, ed è un aspetto che mi piace molto di questo compito: i rider sanno che un mio giudizio è basato sul rispetto per il loro lavoro e per questo sport”, sottolinea Alvaro.
Il 14 settembre è andata in scena a Halde Lohberg in Germania la prima edizione del Redbull Dirt Diggers, un nuovo format che presenta le discipline più innovative del FMX: oltre alla classica gara con le rampe, il Freeride in pista con salti naturali, sezioni e ostacoli di diverse fattezze e la competizione Big Dogs, basata su salti che arrivano fino ai 40 metri.
Anche in questa occasione Alvaro è stato chiamato a esprimere il proprio giudizio, accanto a piloti come Alexey Kolesnikov e Fabian Bauersachs.
“Quando sei giudice in gare come queste ti capita di trovare rider che conoscono la tua storia, sanno che sei passato per le loro stesse difficoltà e per questo ti rispettano. È un equilibrio molto importante quello che si crea fra chi salta e chi giudica; nel mio caso é sempre filato tutto liscio e questo dá una soddisfazione particolare. Mi fa sentire pronto per la prossima gara. Non scendo in moto con gli altri piloti, ma in un certo senso sono ancora lì!”

On 14 September the first edition of the Redbull Dirt Diggers, a new format presenting the most innovative FMX disciplines, was staged in Halde Lohberg in Germany: in addition to the classic race with ramps, the Freeride on track with natural jumps, sections and obstacles of different features and the Big Dogs competition, based on jumps up to 40 meters.

“When you are a judge in competitions like these you happen to find riders who know your story, they know you have gone through their own difficulties and they respect you for it. A very important balance is created between those who jump and those who judge; in my case everything is always smooth and this gives a particular satisfaction. It makes me feel ready for the next race. I don’t get on the bike with the other riders, but in a way I’m still there! ”
